Puck's Mission Statement Pucks Theatre’s Mission is “To expand the public’s knowledge of theatre and their involvement in the arts through production of performances, with a concentration in educating at-risk participants in a theatrical setting, and to supply for those less fortunate opportunities to attend productions” Introduction to Puck's Theatre Puck's Theatre fulfills its mission by focusing on education of at-risk children through various theatrical projects. We work with community groups and schools to bring programs during and after the school day. We create new works of performance art that addresses important social issues. And we offer reduced priced tickets for our performances to local groups. The unifying aspect of these projects is that they will help change the participants perceptions of their world. Our workshops with at-risk kids will enable participants to develop scene work based on their own life experiences. The productions will help spectators view the participants and the material in a positive new way. We are breaking new ground with these programs. We know of no other group that works with under-served populations to the extent that we do. We think it is necessary to show our community a new way of looking at our art. We look to our partners, The Boys and Girls Club of Hartsville, Sonavista Alternative School, Thornwell Elementary School, Communities in Schools, Coker College, Head Start, the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the Darlington County Mental Health Association, the Darlington County School District, the YMCA, the Byerly Foundation, and the participants themselves to enrich our work. We have performed or given workshops in over twenty public schools. Our work has received accolades from national and regional organizations, our project partners, and from the general public. We know that we are having a positive effect on our community. And that's a great feeling! The Artistic Director Adam Weiner has worked with the at risk populations for over 17 years. With Pucks Theatre, he has worked with over 15,000 children in the surrounding area and worked with several organizations and schools throughout the state. Pucks Theatre is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization, who’s primary funding is from grants and donations. Puck’s Theatre receives funding from the South Carolina Arts Commission, The Black Creek Arts Council, The Byerly Foundation, and other local and regional funding organizations. |
